Swim Training Tip – Look Down
One of the first struggles we typically see with adults that are new to swimming when they come in for a private lesson or to our Swim 101 class is that they are looking forward while swimming and trying to lift their head up to breathe. When you look forward and lift your head up, your hips will sink, making swimming efficiently and smoothly more of a challenge. While practicing your swim, make sure that you are staring down at the bottom of the pool (or murky body of open water). This will keep your head aligned with your spine and keep your hips up higher towards the surface of the water – allowing you to glide through the water more smoothly and quickly!
