Russ is a USAT level 1 triathlon coach and has been involved in the sport of triathlon for 10 years. He is also the ET Run Club Program Leader. Russ works professionally as a Licensed Professional Engineer, and holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University. Russ is gradually scaling back on his engineering career to balance it with his passion for coaching and competing and his busy family life with fellow ET Coach Jada Butler and their 6 children.
As an engineer, Russ is detail oriented and brings his analytical thinking to the sport of triathlon. Whether it’s evaluating bike power data to improve his threshold or calculating the exact number of carbs per mile he needs in a marathon, Russ is a data driven coach who believes in the power of numbers to improve performance.
Russ is also a lifelong athlete and accomplished triathlete. He has completed Ironman Wisconsin 3 times, along with several other triathlons of all distances. Over the years of participating in the sport of triathlon, Russ has taken on leadership and volunteer roles within ET for group bike rides, runs, and training camps. He’s also served as body marking captain for the ET Batavia Triathlon for the past several years. Russ is also an avid bike enthusiast and amateur mechanic.
